Sharing Session (60 minutes)
Thursday, Jul 15
Time:
4:15 PM - 5:15 PM
Location:
Room 28

Back to the Basics: Prevention

Panelists will discuss strategies to engage local health departments in emergency preparedness research. They will provide a national view of legal and ethical issues impacting local public health departments' ability to build emergency preparedness and response capacities within the vulnerable populations they serve. They will also highlight challenges and results from the NC H1N1 "ookback" study, including methods to develop useful after-action reports (AARs) for real public health events. Panelists will also examine findings from the comparative analysis of timing and scope of H1N1 response activities across nine NC local health departments, both accredited and non-accredited. The session will conclude with reflections from a local health director, strategies to engage agencies in productive research and adapting the methodologies to other types of hazards.
