Local health departments (LHDs) in the United States are challenged daily to provide for and protect the health of the people living here. In order to protect our communities, LHDs need a national voice. NACCHO is that voice. NACCHO successfully works with federal policymakers to address the needs of local public health and is a respected voice on Capitol Hill. In recent years, NACCHO's leaders have testified before Congress, addressing critical issues such as pandemic influenza and allocation of public health preparedness funding. NACCHO's Government Affairs staff communicates regularly with Congressional staff and Members of Congress as well as administration officials regarding pressing local public health issues.
