NACCHO is saddened by the recent loss of Loretta 'Deliana' Fuddy, ACSW, MPH, director of the Hawaii State Department of Health, who died tragically in a small plane crash on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Deliana's career in public health and health services spanned more than three decades. Prior to serving as the director of the Health Department, she was the Chief, Family Health Services Division. LHDs in the News
Since 2008, 34,400 local health department jobs have been eliminated due to budget cuts. As a result, local health departments (LHDs) have been forced to make tough decisions about cutting jobs and public health services as they continue to keep their communities healthy and protected from public health emergencies.
