NACCHO Has a New President

Washington, D.C. (April 1, 2013)–

Terry Allan, RS, MPH, Health Commissioner for the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) in Northeast Ohio, became NACCHO’s new President on April 1. Former President John Wiesman, DrPH, MPH, CPH vacated the position prior to the end of his term to accept an appointment from Washington Governor Jay Inslee to become the state’s Secretary of Health.

Georgia F. Heise, DrPH, Director of the Three Rivers Health Department in Owenton, Kentucky also became NACCHO’s new President-elect on April 1.

Serving 850,000 residents and thousands of businesses in Greater Cleveland as CCBH’s Health Commissioner since 2004, Allan brings 24 years of public health experience to his role as NACCHO President. During his tenure, childhood lead-poisoning rates have been reduced by more than 50% and CCBH has widened its regional scope of services, aligning select programs with the needs of neighboring health partners in order to reach people in as many as 14 Ohio counties. A proponent of collaboration and community involvement, Allan is also a member of the Health Improvement Partnership-Cuyahoga leadership team, working toward the creation of the first community-wide health initiative of its kind in Cuyahoga County. A member of NACCHO’s Board of Directors since 2007, Allan most recently served as President-elect.

Heise serves a population of 50,000 in the rural Kentucky counties of Carroll, Gallatin, Owen, and Pendelton. Heise is passionate about advancing public health in the areas of accreditation and policy development. Three Rivers was in the first cohort of public health departments to receive accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board in March 2013. Heise has served as NACCHO’s Vice-President since June 2012.

Please join NACCHO in extending sincerest congratulations to Terry Allan, Georgia Heise, and John Wiesman. Each has served and will continue to serve NACCHO and public health extraordinarily well.
