Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Plan Example
Keywords / Description:
This 68-page Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) Plan was identified as a best practice for SNS plans in 2004 as evidence in Goal 1 of the Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) Criteria. The tool was created by the Southeastern District Health Department.
There are excellent examples of Job Action Sheets located in Appendix 7 on pages C26-C38. The sheets include information on desired knowledge, skills, and abilities for each position. Additionally, tasks are divided by immediate actions upon arrival, daily operations, and recovery actions.
The plan is appropriate for use in any size health department.
This plan includes information on:
- Requesting SNS,
- Security support,
- Receipt, Storage, and Staging (RSS),
- Distribution center layout and staff,
- Inventory control,
- Repackaging,
- SNS Dispensing,
- Media Communication,
- Special needs populations, and
- Recovery

This is useful for a small populated state. Some material is dated. While it is marked draft it still has useful information for a State that does not currently have and SNS plan. Also useful for someone looking to review their own plan and seeking alternative issues and strategies.

A comprehensive detailed plan. I particularly liked the Job Action Sheets which identified both what needs to be done immediately as well as the routine tasks.

Comprehensive, although maybe a little top heavy. Still, it could be modified for local use, and all LHDs have different levels of SNS preparation and response. It would be useful to some if not all LHDs.
