Emerging Infectious Diseases

NACCHO is dedicated to strengthening local health departments' (LHDs') capacity to respond to and control infectious diseases. LHDs are frontline responders, because cases or suspect cases of new and emerging infections are likely to appear in community hospitals, private provider offices, and community health centers. Approaches to preventing infectious disease or controlling its spread depend on identifying causes and understanding how these diseases may most effectively be addressed.  More »

With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicting a possibility of avian fu pandemic, the Interpol warning about bioterrorism threats, and the existence of emerging infectious diseases such as SARS, the Rockland County Department of Health recognizes the need for measures to address the isolation and quarantine of communicable diseases.
