Accreditation and Quality Improvement Demonstration Sites Project

NACCHO's Operational Definition is the framework for the local health department (LHD) national accreditation standards of the Public Health Accreditation Board. LHDs planning to become accredited would be well-served to assess the degree to which they have the capacity to fulfill the functions outlined in the Operational Definition, and engage in quality improvement activities as needed to enhance their capacity to this end.

Round 2 Demonstration Sites

With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NACCHO is currently supporting 56 LHDs to participate in a second round of pilot sites.  These award recipients include:

  • 30 single LHDs;
  • 25 LHDs working together in 5 collaboratives; and
  • One Tribal health department.
Each LHD will use a new online version of the LHD Self-Assessment Tool for Accreditation Preparation to complete, analyze, and report results from their self-assessments and embark on quality improvement processes or collaborative efforts to meet standards. More »

Round 1 Demonstration Sites

NACCHO previously supported a first round of 10 LHDs to embark on agency self-assessments and quality improvement processes as a means to prepare for national accreditation with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Read case examples from the 10 sites that document their successes and lessons learned.
