Return to Accreditation Preparation

To successfully achieve accreditation, it is important for leadership to understand the requirements and commit to the process first. To learn about accreditation and determine readiness to apply, the following informational resources offer answers to everything a health director may need to know when considering accreditation, including the process requirements, costs, and benefits. The following resources exist to assist with learning about PHAB and assessing feasibility.

PHAB Online Orientation
Available to the public, PHAB has developed an online orientation to provide a solid overview of public health department accreditation. This orientation consists of four 30-45 minute modules providing a general overview of accreditation, an introduction to the accreditation process, the nuts and bolts of the process, and the PHAB standards and measures and documentation requirements. NACCHO In-Person Training
Offered, upon request, at SACCHO and other state and national level meetings, NACCHO staff can be available to offer in-person accreditation preparation and quality improvement training on various topics related to accreditation. More »

NACCHO Speakers Bureau of Accreditation Champions
NACCHO is assembling a Speakers Bureau of Accreditation Champions who will be available to speak at meetings and conferences of local health departments, local boards of health, SACCHOs, and other like groups. These speakers will have familiarity with accreditation and/or quality improvement and can speak to their own experiences as well as to national resources. NACCHO Accreditation Preparation and Quality Improvement Demonstration Sites
Since 2008, NACCHO has funded health departments to improve their accreditation readiness and quality improvement knowledge. Specific demonstration sites include the PHAB Beta Test Quality Improvement Efforts (2009-2010) and the Accreditation Support Initiatives (2011-2012 and 2012-2013).
